  • Need help for xs1100

Okay, so i was trying to start bike using a charger with a jumper output on it when it quit turning over. Now I have a battery in bike it will only turn over if I bridge the solenoid with a screw driver, and it will only run with ignition switch in off position. If I take screw driver off of points on solenoid or I turn ignition switch to "on" position, bike turns off. I have no idea what it could be other than a burnt wire somewhere and do not want to dig into it if it is unnecessary. If anyone has any ideas please let me know asap.

My friend bought a bike a couple years ago and it did as you describe. In
fact I had to clip a pair of tweezers on the solenoid to make it run. He actually rode it across town like that to my house. I found the problem was
that someone had moved the stator wires that come out of the right side
cover and the wires shorted to the exhaust(the exhaust had melted the
insulation). So I fixed that and the regulator/rectifier had burnt up in the process. So it would then run without the jump at the solenoid but the headlight and tach didn't work until I changed the reg/rec.
So my guess would be a possible short.By the way the wires that shorted
on my buddies were the white wires form the stator.
