Need to Change my back Tire.

Hi All, I'm looking for so advice or a picture or two of what exactly to remove in order to change my rear tire. I have never changed the rubber on a motorcycle wheel that has a driveshaft. Although I did it on my rm80 20 years ago. No disrespect to anyone, but here's what I did with my 78 XS11E.

Today I bought some new rubber, 130/90-17 Rear and 100/90-19 Front and need to put them on so I can head back out on the highway, my skins are weathered and I want to be safe. Thank You All...

Your best bet would be to download a copy of one of the shop manuals from CatatonicBug's website. That will give you a nice step-by-step procedure with some illustrations. Rather than print out the whole thing, you can browse through it with Acrobat Reader, then just print out the page or two you need for a particular job. Of course, your bike will be a bit different depending on how your seat is mounted, and what kind of rear fender you've got, but the basics will still be the same.

That is an interesting variation on an 'E model. Can't say I've ever seen saddlebags mounted like that! Nice looking scoot...

Thanks Ken, I put the saddle bags there because I don't have the side covers and then I got used to it.

Nice bike man I dig it, even the bags. I like the seat, or at least the front half of it. The back portion looks a little long. Im not sure how the passanger would feel about it sloping down to the rear. You might have to get one of those shirts that says "If you can read this the b*tch fell off...seroiusly, flag me down please" lol. The manual will walk you throught the tire change, its fairly easy. What pipes are you uising? THey look like the Mac's but with no turnouts just straight pipes with no baffles.

Hey Guys, yeah that's my bike on youtube, and in a music video I made for my friend. (Hugh Poorman - I Found You) This was early in 2010, before I did more work on it. The exhaust is a set of 2004 Vance Hines striaght shot slip on's. Bought them used for $140.00 and seen that they were a 2" O.D., I think. I had to notch the headers and these exhaust fit right inside the headers, attached a muffler clamp and that was all. The slop on the back seat has been corrected a little more level and the wife say's its fine. I will go with a solo mustang seat and longer fender once I build one for the wife.

Standards include a wire harness in their toolkit to compress the shocks so that the axle will clear the exhaust pipes. It looks like you won't need it.

Hey Brad,

Why dont you do a tech blurb on how you did the forward controls, a step by step if you would. It sure would help me, or perhaps you already have and I cant find it for whatever reason. Also was looking for the info the TC is reported to have done with forwards, but cant find it, can anyone point me to that info?

I'll be doing this on my special soon, but haven't yet, so I haven't made a pictorial about it. However, there is one for the front tire...again, it's for a special, so there are some differences with the axle and spacers, but still good info about getting the old tread off, and putting the new one on, etc.! Get the manual like Ken said, will go a long ways.

Thanks All, just finished changing the rubber but left my camera at home. That was fun, not much harder than changing a bicycle tire. And yes, I popped the front tube, had to run and pick up a new one and decided to change the back tube as well. The valve stems were kinda rusty at the base.
