The center stand is all about PRESSING DOWN, not lifting or pulling the bike. I'm less than 200lbs, and I have no problem getting my full dresser up on the centerstand. Once I learned the technique, it's easy! Center the bike, and push the stand down so both feet touch the ground. Then, while holding the left handlebar and the left side of the rear grab bar, I stand up on the sidestand (lifting my whole body off the ground), and the bike rolls back on the sidestand.

        I have tried that

        Bug

Ive read that technique (prob from you!) and it doesnt work for me. Someday at a Rally I will get a demo or just keep trying.

I can do it that way too bug but I find that it is easier my way and I feel it puts less stress on the frame cause I can control how it falls back on the stops MUCH better and just let it gently come down.

During a Chilly morning, a group of us filled up at the local gas station and went for a pleasant brunch...

After we came out, I saddled up and, yes, the gas started pouring out.....

My fathers comment: "Just don't shift out of 1st for about 5 miles...and if you want more range, just strap a 5 gallon gas can to that 3 foot sissy bar!"

and No, my bike did not catch on fire.

Not an uncommon thing... The fuel expands after being let out of cold underground storage. If you plan to stop right after filling up, you have to allow for that expansion and not fill all the way. Either that or make sure you have a few miles to ride before stopping.

I'm a sidestand filler. I have tried the "tricks" to get her on the center and can't seem to do it. It would make oil changes easier! I'm also afraid of dropping it when coming down off the center stand.

                  Lightweight

I'm only 5'8" at 160 lbs and getting it up on the centerstand, which I use extensively, is easy. With a full tank of gas and about 50 lbs of tools and parts in the bags it's a little tough. When a Hardly rider wants to act tough I just ask him to try it. They always get a much deeper respect for me and my XS. When I fill it up on a trip I use the filler pipe I mentioned earlier and don't wast time at the gas stop because if I do it will expand and overflow so I fill up and go immediately. About 160 to 175 mi later I have to do it again. If I don't use the tube to fill up I have to stop at around 135 mi. Yea I know, all you guys can't go that long without a rest. That's why no one keeps up with me on trips. I don't get off the bike for gas stops or remove the helmet even. 2 or 3 minutes and I'm on the road again.

I open the lid, put the nozzle in and fill it.

I don't think it makes any difference which stand you have it on, but they are designed to be filled on the side stand.

I honestly have tried to see if I can get any difference in how full I can get the tank on the side stand of the center stand and I can't see a difference. I also don't have any problem getting the tank full without some special device, I just hold that stupid rubber thing on the nozzle back with my hand while I fill the tank while holding the the nozzle just inside the tank. When it bubbles a little cause it's ready to overflow, I stop and put the nozzle back on the pump, reset the trip meter and close the cap and I'm ready to go for another 120 or so in town if it's short trips (closer to 135 if their a bit longer) and 145+ on the road.
