  • Attention Houston, we have a problem!

Well, the weather here in good old GA has been great and I have enjoyed riding for the past several days...until yesterday that is. Rode to work yesterday AM--all was great; got on the XJ to come home last night--it started but I forgot to use the choke and as I pulled off I stalled! Now, it won't do a thing--no lights, sound...nothing! Checked fuse but not blown, checked battery but it's charged.....any help???????????????????????????

Hmm...is your starter turning over? If you pull the plugs, are they wet or dry?

Lets run through some easy duhh type stuff like petcocks are on, the emergency shutoff switch on the right handlebar did not get bumped to off when it stalled, you have the bike in Neutral or clutch pulled in?
Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

You say you "checked fuse" which one? I don't know for sure about xj's but the xs's and many other bikes have a "main" fuse that is not in the fuse panel. It should be a 30 amp fuse, even if it looks good replace it just to be sure.

Check the stuff DG mentioned too

The main fuse on the XJ is toward the top rear section of the battery compartment under the seat. Same thing happened to me once, not the stalling but the "nothing happeneing" when I pushed the starter button.
That fuse holder doesn't look like a typical one either. It's kind of flat because it can also store a spare fuse.

Do the XJ's have the fuse on the LEFT side of the bike from the battery under the side cover like the XS's???

I know mine was blown under that cover.....replaced it and everything else worked okay...

Yet another reason to switch to the ATC fuses, and move the main fuse to that new panel. I also use fuses that light up when they are blown to help in locating them in the dark. I got them at AutoZone.

Kill switch bumped or in gear... must be in neutral on the XJ...

2 quickest things I can think of before it gets deep... also, in gear, kickstand down? Or I've seen the bolt on the kickstand switch get loose and the switch turn enough it kills the bike.
