Are the towers friction fit or glued in?

IIRC, they have a small rivet holding them in.

      Hi phil,
not mine. They are a snap-in fit. Allegedly.
Mine fell out and were rattling round inside the tank.
This is like having high blood pressure, it's completely symptomless. Until you run onto what you supposed to be reserve and find there ain't no reserve because those filter towers are the reserve too but not if they have fallen out.
And you have been running on unfiltered gas for gawd knows how long.

On both of my specials, they are simply a push in, friction fit. I can vouch for Fred's description as well. The filter piece also defines the reserve function by allowing fuel in only down to a certain level for the ON function.

I was riding with a fellow XSive and friend out to Indinapolis when his bike started running like crap, then straightened out, then died. We found that he was bone dry on fuel. His light had never worked but he thought he had reserve function. Unfortunately no, he did not. Now, he also had adjuste dhis spark plug gap and was getting like 18 MPG without knowing it, so he was way off on how many miles he would get on the tank as well. But none of that changes it when your parked on the side fo the highway with an empty tank. Fortunately, I could give him a lift to the next gas station and bring him back to fuel the beast. So it all worked out, but lesson learned on depending on that reserve function.

I know I have one that is rolling around inside my tank. What a pain it is to get them out! Any solution to keeping them on if they wont stay? At least I have one side.

Yep, put a rivet in them.
