    Engine Guard install?

I purchased a used set of chrome engine guards via eBay for my 81'RH. Just wondering if anything needs to be done caution wise?

I assume just remove the bolts on either side (one side at a time) but I just want to make sure.

    Any help welcome.

The long bolt for the top mount is just a little to short and needs to be replaced sometimes. The bottom two never have been a problem.

BTW, guards in pic look bent.

Ya, they are angled back a bit, they seem to line up properly tho.

Just be aware that those 2-point guards (only one piece of tubing) don't really offer a lot of protection. Pictures of a recent crash showed how a guard just like those folded backward and smashed right through the side of the engine case. The 3-point guards are much better protection.

Hmm.. yeah but I bought them mainly to prtoect against a fallover. I think the majority prangs over 40-50kph write most bikes off.

Yeah, it was my crash he spoke of. The bike was going maybe 20 MPH and got pushed up against a guard rail that bent it back.

But, both sides guards got bent back and took out the side cases to include pulling bolts through th ebolt holes in the engine case ruining the engine cases top and bottom.

The three point ones are rarer than hens teeth, so the two point ones are better than nothing, and give you a place to put some highway pegs.
