  • Front Brake Squeal

Put new pads both left and right caliper on my 1100G and they stop ok but they squeal loudly. I have tried cleaning them with water from a garden hose but no help. Any advice on getting rid of the noise which I have only during initial application during any stop?
Appreciate any advice. I put EBC pads on about one month ago.

I found applying automotive disc brake anti-sqeek stuff on the back of the brake pads worked well.

I put brake pad anti squeal grease on the back of my pads and wherever there was metal to metal contact, It seems to work pretty well, my pads squealled alot before. There was a thread about this not too long ago, try looking under the search or past threads.

There was a thin steel plate behind my pads when I changed them for the first time, although one side was missing. It never did squeal before, but after I put the new pads in it was rather embarrassing. I replaced the one plate as it was, but the other side continued to squeal. I traced that one plate on a thin piece of aluminum and cut it out with tin snips. Put it behind the other side and no mo squeal.

Disk brake anti-squeal can be gotten at any autoparts store. The trick to making it work is letting it fully dry before reassembling. Letting the pads sit in the hot summer sun for an hour or so will usually do the trick.

            Squeal

My 78E has the proper shim installed on all calipers. Did a brake job when I installed S/S Lines. All new pads, one new piston on front left with a rebuild kit. I'm going to try the brake anti-squeal stuff at earliest opportunity. I was told today by a mechanic friend, been doing it for over 30 years, that brake pads that sit in stock for a long time lose a certain amount of lubricity due to oil leaching out over time. State of Texas did some kind of study as to why some brakes on state vehicles squealed and some did not. My hard earned tax dollars at work. Don't know if I believe it, but it is an explanation.
I bought the pads off eBay a while back and they were unmarked as to manufacturer, they did not even fit until I modified them, had to reshape with a file. The screws that go in the back of caliper did not have any lead-in champher, so they would be very hard to install (did not use). The shim plates were about half as thick (did not use). They do stop good though. I guess you get what you pay for.
There's always a way, figure it out.

The only thing I will add about auto anti-squeal is that it works better if you let the stuff dry before you put it all back together.
