    Right Blinker Light Stays On

    Hi All,

I just tried adding on a new blinker to the right side of my bike and I noticed that when I turn the right blinker on, the light just stays on. It blinks once, but then it doesn't blink again. I was thinking it had something to do with my ground wire, but when I remove it, it doesn't turn on at all. Is there something that I'm doing wrong or is there something that I need to adjust?

    We need more info....

You say you tried adding a blinker, so did you leave the two stock blinkers on? Or are you replacing the stock blinkers with something else?

Do the blinkers on the left side still work?

Is your new blinker LED or standard bulbs?

My best guess without answers to those questions is that your new blinker doesn't draw enough current to make the stock flasher unit work. Try picking up an electronic 2 prong flasher form the auto parts store and putting it in place of the stock one and see if it blinks.

When you say you "added a new blinker", do you mean the flasher relay, or the light bulb/fixture itself?

Most of the time when the turns don't blink ...
        corroded grounds/connectors
        corroded bulb socket
        low voltage
        faulty flasher
        wrong bulbs or flashers installed
        handle bar switch corroded

        mro
BTW, does the 4 way work?

+1 what mro states! Take the time to meticulously go through all those checks.

What's up everyone. Thanks for all the great responses. Just to give a little more detail. I didn't actually "add" a right blinker, the term I should have used is "swapped". I took the old one off, and put a smaller one that I bought from cycle gear http://www.cyclegear.com/spgm.cfm?L1...tem=FAI_2522_G

The lights are standard bulbs. I changed the ground connector and the handle bar switch is brand new (from Mikes XS).

As stated earlier, my guess is one of the three:
            low voltage
            faulty flasher
            wrong bulbs or flashers installed

But I will try picking up an electronic 2 prong flasher to see if I can get some love with that. Thanks for the help everyone.

I should have asked this earlier, but should the 2 prong flash be 12.8V as well? I also noticed the existing flasher unit has 3 prongs (the long cylinder(ish) looking one), am I looking at the correct item? Just wanna be sure I'm on the same page.

You're on the right page - the stock flasher is 3-prong. The 3rd prong is for the self-cancelling feature, which you will lose with the 2-prong. I have a Tridon EL-12 flasher that works well with my LED turn signals. I think I got it at Advance or O'Reilly. You'll have to experiment to figure out which way it fits in the connector (if you get it wrong the first time it will not cause any damage).

Cool, and did your wiring stay the same, or did you do something special with that?

Just got my LEDs in the mail yesterday. So I'm gonna head over to Kragens later on today to pick up the Tridon EL12 Flasher. If they don't have that specific model, is there another one that I can get from there?

Any 2-prong electronic flasher should work. Just make sure it's electronic. Mechanical is cheaper but will not work.

Perfect, thanks for the info. Do i need to remove the headlight to remove the front blinkers?
