  • carb 3 tiny holes

What are those three tiny holes connected to, the ones just under the throttle plates. Where do I blow air thru to check them. Also, I have a bowl from an early carb set, a yam triple, it seems to fit onto the late carbs without a problem, can I use it with the late carbs set since I just cant get that one hole jet whatever to clean and dont want to drill it.

That is where the fuel comes through when you pull the choke (enricher) handle out. To clean them, you have to remove the choke rod (watch for the tiny spring & detent ball) and unscrew the choke plungers from each carb. Without splitting the rack apart, you will only be able to remove the plunger on #1, but you can get carb cleaner and compressed air past the loosened plungers on the other 3.

Why not drill the pilot jet out of the carb? It's super easy, and you MUST clean behind it to get the carbs clean anyway. They are cheap, and easy to replace. It took an easy-out and 2 seconds flat to remove one on mine when I first got the bike.

The big hole in front of the butterfly is the enricher. The three tiny holes just behind the butterfly is the gas supply for the low range. The pilot jet in the tunnel next to the main jet supply the gas, under the bowl. Are you talking about the hole in the bowl down the side, that you can't get clean. If so, let it soak w/ carb cleaner over night. If you can find a sewing needle/pin long enough to stick in it and wiggle it around. If a diff. bowl will fit on it will probably work. Not sure if they used diff. jets for the enricher on diff. bikes.

I think you have that backward... There are only 3 holes total. When the enricher is pushed all the way in, only the one furthest from the engine is feeding fuel, pulled through the jet in the bottom of the float bowl. When the enricher is pulled all the way out, all 3 feed fuel. Press it in to the middle notch, and only the 2 rearward holes are feeding fuel.

Now, I may be wrong on that, but that's how I understand it.

I re-thought that a bit, and I had it close, but not quite. The hole furthest from the engine is fed by the pilot jet (not the enricher jet in the float bowl), and is open all the time. The other two holes are opened by the enricher - both if the enricher is pulled all the way out, only one if it's only half-way out.

            more 3 tinys

Well here goes, the three tinys are what I cant seem to find the hole for that allows fuel to go thru. A few days ago, I had all four carbs ,,,, three tiny holes bubbling with carb cleaner , shot in from somewhere. Unfortunately, I cant remember where I shot that in from,, and I DID NOT have the choke shaft off or any of the choke rubber things loose at all. Ive pretty much got it all cleaned, except now I cant find where to shoot the magic juice thru to do a final check on the three tiny holes. If anyone can throw some further light on this situation, I sure would appreciate it.

Easy Outs, I got real familiar with them, along with heat from my propane torch, they took all the idle mix screws out. There were also used to get two of the pilot jets out, one and four unscrewed ok, the middle ones had to be pulled with EZout.

Catbug, the hole I am talking about is in the actual bowl, it somehow communicates with the enrichment system if you believe clymers. I actually got the original one of those bowls to work just soaked it in the yamaha carb cleaner for a while. Apparently all the stronger carb cleaner didnt work but the yam stuff did.

Blow Carb cleaner and Compressed air through all the holes in the inlet bell of your carb. Also through the pilot jet and main jet. Pull your enricher screw out and blow the same through there.

As to the enricher jet in the float bowl, I highly recommend this method, because I just used it a month or less ago myself very successfully on carbs that had gas sitting in the bowls so long it turned into dried up brown goop. Pull a wire out of a wire brush. Straighten it out a little longer than the length of the tube on the side of the float bowl (the one that slides over the small tube sticking up out of the carb body), spray carb cleaner into that tube and into the hole in the float bowl. Then use the wire from the brush and push and twist it in the tube of the bowl. This is where the jet is and so you will feel where the wire hits the edges of the jet and have to work it so it goes down the hole in the jet. Push and twist and it will break through there. You will feel it go through and you can measure the length of the wire that goes in and verify it is the full length of that tube on the bowl. Also push into the hole in the bowl and you will feel it poke into that tube area also. When you finish claening with the wire, poke the straw of the carb cleaner into the hole in the bowl and spray cleaner but watchout as it comes out the hole just like it comes out the straw and can get you in the face. Spray the other direction to. I can tell you form personal experience this will clean out the jet, and you WILL see the difference in how it starts and runs on enricher.

                thanks deeg and others

The jet actually in the bowl is now clear, as stated in the last paragraph of my earlier post. That wire brush idea is excellent, and I will be making the tool and experimenting with it and laying it aside for future reference. I guess I am gonna have to break down and pull the enrich rod and loosen the rubber parts up to spray into and thru them so I get the shots coming out of my tiny holes. smile. I cant believe that I can get such good info so fast here, amazing and thanks again guys.
