Anyone have suggestions about where to get replacement mufflers for an xs1100? I tried a couple of places LAST year,,,, everyone said they could get them but zippo. I even placed an order with Accessories INT. and every month I emailed them and they replied they were backordered by the manufacturer. The header pipes are sound even though discolored but the mufflers themselves are shot.... no baffles left.. Summer is coming and I don't want to miss another Maine riding season!!

I believe it's stock although I'm not 100% sure. The mufflers are over 25 years old. I replaced the original with a 4 into one and hated it and went back to the stock mufflers when I lived in Louisiana so many years ago...

if it is stock they you will probably not find new mufflers, Yamaha doesn't make them anymore, and the muffler is a single piece including the crossover pipe and #1 or #4 head pipe depending on which muffler it is.

Your best bet is to watch e-bay, and put up a post in the parts wanted section and hope someone here will part with one.

The other option is to modify it to take a "slip on" muffler, look at some bike catalogs and pick one you like, then have your pipes modified to fit that muffler, lots of styles and sizes available.

I knew that knew stock mufflers were not an option and I was wondering if either Jardine or MAC or any other manufacturer actually made replacement exhaust systems and if not, what anyone would recommend for weld on or slip on replacement mufflers... Is it as simple as cutting the mufflers off where they meet the pipes and either slipping new ones on and clamping or having them welded on?

            Keeping the OEM Header Pipes

I chose to use the OEM header pipes(cut/modified) along with JC Whitney universal "slip-ons".

Here's the JCW Style as seen on their site (less than $50 each):

            http://www.jcwhitney.com/dunstall-st...p2006467.jcwx#

I got the header pipes already modified. I'd suggest that if you go this route that you get the mufflers and take them to the "muffler shop" along with the bike as well. This way the initial "rough" cuts can be made to lose the crossover pipe/OEM mufflers. Then the Slip-ons can be put in place to guide the final cuts.

In the end this gives the ability to replace the mufflers as they wear out or change to a different muffler. Also keeps the original header which is double walled Stainless: Much more durable than anything available from the aftermarket providers IMO.

My choice to use the JCW slip-ons was cause the old slip-ons had worn out. I still have the original OEM system hanging on the shop wall in fair-to-good condition. Got the headers/slip-ons from member "Andreas Weiss". (Totally excellent source of parts for our bikes BTW). Didn't have to re-jet anything in the carbs either.

After doing the "slip-on" mod others have chosen more $$$ mufflers like Super-Traps and the like. Different sound for the tastes of the owner and possible different performance gains as well.

Blah Blah Blah....Here's a link to hear what they sound like going down the road in all RPM ranges:

Member Mashermoto posted a video of his bike with Super Trap mufflers somewhere here on the site. But the bike is at idle and so IMO it officially doesn't count.

(Nudge..nudge...Hope to hear it at least do a fly-by at roadspeed one day..)

Do an ebay search "XS1100 exhaust" and you'll get a bunch of hits from complete used stock systems to aftermarket slip on pipes that will fit right on your existing headers.

Thanks, This sounds like the most reasonable solution. I've owned this bike since 1978 as she's been a reliable old friend. It will be nice to ride her again during the 2 month window here in northern Maine.

Thanks for the suggestion. I wasted last summer waiting for manufactured mufflers and don't want to loose another season. John

Harley Sportster muffs off eBay work for me. Others like Fatboy muffs. They're a little longer than the Sporties. Sound is about the same. Bolted up to stock headers (you lose the crossover) they sound about like stock except a little deeper pitch. They look fine too. I'd try to find some that still had the baffle in them. I'm running stock jets in the carbs with no problems.
