  • Butterfly Shaft Seals

Anyone know the part number for the shaft seals? I can't really tell by the carb pic.. but is it 2A2-14997-00-00 on the 78-79 carbs and 256-14997-00-00 on the later ones? Am I looking at the wrong seal?

I'll look around, but anyone know the cheapest place to find them? If that is the right part number, they apparently used them on several different carbs.

I believe that MikesXS sells those seals, since the 650s (at least the 80-82 ones) used the same carbs we do.

      Hi Tod,
      MikesXS got them:-
      http://www.mikesxs.net/products-75.html#products
Scroll down to parts #48-5021 and #48-5022.
You will need the new butterfly screws because it's best you Dremel off the peened-over tails of the old ones to get them out.

Thanks Fred.. but does anyone know the actual part # so I can give my local shop a shot at my business? I can usually pay a little more there, but no shipping fees.

The seals for the XJ is 256-14997-00-00. I priced them today at the dealer for 3.42 each. about 3 days to get in. I tried to order them online. MikesXS was out of stock. I went to a place called "Cheap cycle parts.com" 2.53 each plus shipping was just over 26.00 only saving about a buck. Haven't heard from them after they took my money. Been trying for days. I won't order SH!T from them again. Time to get in touch with paypal to try and get my money back.

Cheap cycle parts is like that. Took them well over a week to even acknowledge they knew I ordered anything. Took close to three to get a set of clutch springs. I would advise anyone against using them.

Yeah, I went to my dealer today (That doesn't sound right) and he could get me the seals, but not the replacement screws. I guess I don't NEED the screws, but might as well while I'm doing this. Gonna look around and try to find them both.
