  • Question Regarding Octy.

A lot of people mentioned the removal of the octopus. However, wouldn't switching between prime and off be the same as routing directly from the "front" petcock outlet and switching from on to off?

Please excuse my ignorance if I'm out to lunch on this one.

    Hey Titans,

No, you're correct! Switching to PRIME bypasses the circuits of the OCTY and sends fuel directly to the carbs, and then OFF stops flow to the OCTY.

However, there are a LOT of hoses for the plumbing of the OCTY, and so removal provides a cleaner and less confusing arrangement, as well as removing a weak link from the chain.

plus if you always use prime, you no longer have a reserve, Prime pull gas from the "bottom" of the tank, same as reserve. If your running on prime and run out, your really out, like walking to the gas station out. If you use "on" then when you run you you can still switch to reserve (or prime) and have a bit more gas to get you to the station.

Thats why I love my gas light. I always run it on reserve. If I set it to on, my engine cuts out within 500 feet of my gas light coming on, or pretty close anyway. Just one of the things working great on my bike. Too great. So I just keep it on reserve so I don't have to reach down and change my petcocks.
