    Clip ons

    Does anyone know offhand the size of the special forks? I can't measure mine right now, and am thinking about doing clip ons below the top tree. I have clubs on it now, and want to lower the headlight, drop the front a little more (to account for the lowered rear with the R1 monoshock), and give it a longer, lower look.

              Wow. That was quick! Thanks for all the help.

              Here is what I am looking to do. I want to lower the headlight to the point that it just clears the front tire when the fork is fully compressed. Then I want to lower the gauges to about the height of the top of the headlight now. Overall, I think this will give more of a "locomotive" look. This is what I have now:





              I just can't get past the "peaky" look of this darn thing, and those spindly forks. I am hoping that by moving the headlight and gauges as low as I can (they are already dropped 3 inches below stock) I can make it look like a curve, rather than a peak. This should help the overall look of things. The clubs might even stay after the headlight lowering, I just have to see how it looks. I want to start pricing clip ons now, though.

              psyco: Check e-bay, sporting for less, in case I re use these. He sells them for about $20, and ships really fast. You could have these, but I might re use them. You should definitely get them, though. You will be amazed at the handling difference.

                  I dropped the headlight and gauges tonight. I am not sure yet on clip ons or not. I want to look at it for a few days to decide. It would definitely clean the top of the bike off. I think it looks a lot more proportional now:







                  This is as low as it can go without hitting the front fender in a good bump. Everything is rock solid, though, and the headlight beam shines as far as before. Purists will hate it for sure, but I think it gives it kind of a mean look

                      I had an aluminum oil cooler that sat at about that height on the back side of the forks. That light and fender ARE going to make contact. I've got a fender dented to hell to prove it... and I kept more air in the front than normal.

                      Yes, coming down too hard from wheelies didn't help.. .lol.. but that wasn't the only time it would hit.

                          Are you sure that won't hit? I think I've seen my front dive lower then that on occasion....
                          I like the look but I'd be really afraid that it would hit

                                  I am not sure yet. I got on the skidders pretty hard on the way home (stopping for a tractor/ trailer), and it got close, but did not hit. So we will see how long the fender lasts...

                                  Tod, at what point on the fender did the light hit? If it is not in the center, I might be able to cut the fender down to allow for extra clearance (so long as it does not hit the tire).
                                  Do you have pics of your set up? I like this look a lot better than the stock mounting, it makes it look a little less "special"...

                                      This is how much I got my forks to compress last year after normal riding and the preload on high. About 4.5 inches, is that typical? It seemed a little XSessive to me but what do I know... Maybe some new thicker oil would help. I do drive on the agressive side.

                                          Same here. Even with about 15psi in the forks if I really get on the brakes it compresses further than that. Now I'm a big guy, and it's a dresser, but it can get down that far.
