  • Exhaust pipe studs

OK, search ain't finding for me so I will ask.
What I did was remove my XS11SG's exhaust system in order to do something about the right-side muffler to pipe weld failing.
What happened was that 5 of the funny nuts came off their studs OK and 3 came out studs and all.
Salvage removed one nut, sheared one stud at the nut's inner face and #3 is still soaking in penetrating oil.
I have hopes of salvaging the last 2 nuts and I have long metric bolts to make new studs from.
What I am not sure of is; should the studs that threaded out &/or their replacements be fixed in with Loctite and if so what grade or will the cylinder head operating temperature degrade the Loctite so there's no point in using it?

Would'nt loctite them, if ever one was to twist off, the protruding end being the only thing to get hold of would make you say some interesting stuff when it braks off. If your gonna make your studs, measure the depth of holes, as I remember they are bottom holes, so make them accoringly so as to bottom in hole and no threads showing. Thead other end of stud leaving bout 3/16" no thread so threads dont meet each other and not too long or you wont be able to tighten cause the stud protrudes to far to keep allen wrench in place.
