I only had one mirror on my 78 XS11 when I bought it and have tried a variety of mirrors I had from old bikes - and they all suck. The EMGO mirrors show a magnified view which I do not like. Looking for something in black that actually lets you see beyond your elbows. Any suggestions?

yeah, I have a milk crate full of those mirrors.
Long shaky stalks or bar ends are the only options for seeing past your own elbows.
I found that flat mirrors give a very small field of view.

I couldn't see around my shoulders with the stock mirrors and emgo bars so I replaced them with true vision mirrors from Mikes XS. They're somewhat bigger than the stockers, the stems are longer, and they provide a really good view of what's behind you.
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

I think it's a pretty cool idea - assuming you always wear a helmet.I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

move it to the hot topics....
Here comes the helmet debate......
I always wear mine, and I don't mind talking to the local leos. Its on my list of things I'd buy if I win the lottery. Think its around 300 bucks, so not that far off the "high end" helmets1979 xs1100 Special -

neat concept.
but the law sez the BIKE must have mirrors, not the rider.
Mind you, if that seebacroscope helmet works as described you'd never have to look at them.
Unless you were carrying a pillion rider. Then all you'd see in the helmet mirror is if they were still there or not.Fred Hill, S'toon

I think with some of the big step seats and the right pillion rider you might get a view like one of our other members avitar... hmm.... hadn't thought of that before. I think the helmet just went up my list a couple notches. Might be way distracting trying to drive though.1979 xs1100 Special -
