  • Carb boots to engine head?

So I am trying to piece together the bike again for spring. I have rejetted accordingly to fit the pods and kerker. Just finished the valve adjustment. Put everything back together and have been trying to synch all day with a carbtune with no luck. My main issue has been horrible backfiring and erratic movement. I have synched the carbs before but this time was a beast! So noticed puffs of smoke at times coming from where the carb boot meets the head on one or two of them...so I took the carbs off and tightened the carb boots ( i did have them off for rehab...) it ran without popping for a while until rpm started to drop then it continued. I thought I may just be really lean but after letting ou t the IMS's a turn or two nothing helped.

    1. Should I use RTV on the carb boot surface??

    2. I re-used my exhaust gaskets...would that cause crazy backpopping?

    3. SOmething with the valve adjustment?

    4. Do i need to go back into carbs??

I am pretty frustrated...this is taking longer than i had hoped. Everything that can go wrong has been....

    thanks

    Are

you sure it did not jump time while adjusting the valves? BTW- I use black silicone but no gasket. Just run the bolt down almost snug and let set. Then after cure finish tighten.

      hopefully sure...

Well my timing marks were perfectly lined up. I installed our new CCT jmnjrpa...rotated it by hand more than twice and everything was good..

well I went ahead and used black silicone...except I went ahead and tightened...oops. Hopefully it will seal just as well.... If that doesn't fix it, then I will put in new exhaust gaskets...and trouble shoot from there..

The problem is I don't know when I am going ot have time to do this. The semester is crushing in on me!!

Anybody around Nashville wanna Help!!?? haha

      Thanks

        Sorry,

In addition to having no time you are about to experience what has hit us today. We went from 72 at 6:00PM yesterday to 34 @ 6:00PM today. It was a straight slide with no warm up today. Wind gusts over 40 MPH and snow coming tonight. keep the covers up!
