Do you all have any good ideas on how to get the slides unstuck on a Mikuni carb? 3 of out of the 4 are stuck fast even after trying to clean them with carb cleaner.
Keep spraying them with carb cleaner they will loosen up sooner or later. Just don't use the strong carb cleaner it will ruin anything rubber on the carbs. Sea Foam works well to free up carbs too and it will not damage any seals or "o"rings

(Yeah...living here in the PNW where the sun isn't available leads to a lot of different ways and methods to simulate what the sun does naturally..)
Place the carb bodies under the heat lamp like they're french fries at McDonalds for a while. The idea is that the bodies will expand first because they're exposed to the radiant light/heat. The slides will not get any heat/light and stay the same size until the heat from the bodies conducts to them from physical contact.
May have to do this a few times with cooling periods in between. One of the safest/gentlest ways to unstick those slides or any "sensitive" parts.
Getting impatient? If you're thinking of using a heat gun to do the job then be prepared to buy new rubber parts for the carb: Diaphragms, tees, butterfly shaft o-rings, etc. The temps of the heat gun are way beyond the melting point of those non-metal parts. Plus there's a fire/explosion hazard if there's any gas in the carbs. Fumes from any gas or residue get sucked into the heat gun and Kablooey.
Put'em under the lamp and go to your happy place for a while: Outside the man-cave on a perfectly running XS1100 always works for me.
Good idea about applying some heat to the carb bodys I will have to try that. I have been using PB Blaster with no success. I will try some mild heat and the Blaster and see if that works. If that doesn't work I guess I will have to find some other carbs.
