    Hey All

Im thinking of adding a windshield to my 79 sp.Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.Good or bad experiences that any of you may have had?
Im 5'9 and not sure of the height if I dont get an adjustable type. Are the height specs measured from the handlebars or the headlight?
I would prefer to get a quick release one for off freeway riding.
There were 12 listed on bikebandit that would fit that I saw as I m just starting to shop around.
    What say you?

I have this small Slipstreamer on my 79 Special. It blocks a lot of air for it's size. Removes in less than 30 seconds. They are about $75, but can be found for as low as $60.

      I had a Spirit on my G.
Allmost as much protection as a Vetter fairing.

I've got a spitfire on mine. It's pretty much like Phil's slipstreamer. I think I paid $68 plus shipping. The first thing I noticed was the wind was no longer trying to push me off on the highway, and the bugs have a much smaller target to aim at. I get a little buffeting on the top of my helmet, but after my brain goes numb I hardly notice it .
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

I had one of those spitfires given to me and tried it out on a trip to AR. I was NOT impressed in the slightest. Instead of blocking wind it acted like a spoiler and deflected air up. Which blew the rain I rode through up the inside of my helmet and made my helmet pull on the chin strap all the time.

              I gave it back.

I had the Plexistar 2 as well, and it was a really nice windshield. I sold it shortly after I got it and upgraded to a full fairing, but it was definitely much better than nothing.

I'm 5'10" and I also have the spitfire, I like it. I blocks the wind for me just right. Mines set at about 75% angled back a few inches off the headlight. It sits on there nice and firm without bouncing around. Keep in mind I do have a solo seat which sets me considerably lower on the bike than the stock seat. With the stock seat I would want something a little taller than the spitfire. Still a good windshield though. This pic doesn't show much of the windshield, but here it is.

                    xseddy,

The height of the windshield is usually measured form the top of the head light. From some of my past readings on this, to determine proper height measure from the top of the headlight to in between the tip and bridge of your nose. This way you can look over the top of the windshield when its raining and you should not get buffeting around your head from the air coming off the windshield.

Here is the application chart for slipstreamer windshields. http://www.slipstreamer.com/2010_App...hart-Excel.pdf

                    Hope this helps.

Hey I have ridden that one Thanks BikerPhil. I am 6'2" and i found it offered good protection for the chest rush of wind but not tall enough to deflect wind off my face. On my 650 maxim I have a Slipstream Turbo which i think is 19" tall. I like it a lot. while i look over the top (just) it shields my face from the wind. Very small adjustments to the angle of the shield makes a huge difference to the riders comfort. Mine is set for comfort at 75mph as that is cruising speed on the highway.
Look in Links for a good article on windshield selection.
