  • XS1100 bike dies after engine warms up

Rebuilt carbs, installed air pods, 4 to 1 Supertrapp exhaust. Bike starts and runs fine. Some popping through the pods until warmed up. Then idles nicely. Runs down the road, shifts fine through all the gears. But then, it will die out, usually in first and 2nd gear after the engine is thoroughly warmed up and won't start again for at least 10 minutes. After waiting the alloted time, the bike fires right up. Then, process repeats. Any ideas?

Sounds like a fuel tank vent is not venting. Try opening the fuel cap and running the same way to see if it still dies. If it doesn't, there's your problem.

      Coils??

If you're sure it's not starving for gas, as in clogged filters, petcocks, gas cap vent hole etc. Check your coils.

Make sure your fuel lines are not kinked but I would agree that it sounds like a venting problem too!

Check pickup coil wires and valve lash as well.

Now that you mention it, I do hear a sucking sound coming from the gas tank filler cover after riding it for a while. Is this normal?

in a word "no". Next time you go for a ride, when the bike starts to die, pull over and pop the filler cap open, then see if it will start up again. If it does you'll have to take the cap apart and clean your vent.
