  • Do you paint the underside of fenders?

I just got a set of replacement MNS fenders, but they have some small scratches in them. If I ever get the $ to paint them, would the underside get painted too? I can't tell if they ever were, but it seems that they would corrode through from the bottom if they were not treated with something.

For those of you who have already done this, how did you deal with the underside of the fenders?

I sandblasted the undersides of mine then put 2 coats of powdercoat on 'em...

    They'll never rust again.

I chrome-polished the outsides then did the insides with rattlecan rockerguard.

I did it the cheapy way - spray can of black tremclad rust paint - 2 coats, I even painted the top of the fenders this way (both front & back) - I have an MNS so all is black - looks fine to me, but then again I'm not too picky - Dan

Thx Fred - Kinda the way I feel - to be honest I painted the whole bike frame too etc with black tremclad - workin mans paint -all except the motor (thats rattle can high heat enamel from hardware store) - no fuss & touch ups are a breeze with tremclad. Hey I did go fancy & use a spray can. As my I told my Dad when I first tried the stuff 30 yrs ago "Hey Pops @ 30 mph no one knows the difference. - Dan

I'm way too anal to use rattlecan for any of the shiny parts of my bike. It will have to be the proper shade of black, with lots of clear coat over it. I don't trust my own skills to make what I consider a professional finish either. I will definitely be sourcing a professional, but I didn't know if I should ask them to paint both sides, or to do something different on the underside.
