  • Seat and cowl mod

Hi, I would like to change out my seat and rear fairing for a setup like this guy has:

He acquired his from a mostly european bike called a Zephyr, but I cant find those rare parts. Can anyone offer a more common alternative for sourcing a seat and rear cowl that looks similar?

You should be able to find Kawasaki Zephyr parts on Ebay.

        Hi racr,
the XS11SG don't have a rear fairing except if someone grafted one on there.
The most likely "easy swap" is the seat & tailpiece off a Standard.
Or is that what you already have?

Right, i meant my seat and rear fender for a better seat and rear fairing that looks similar to what is in the picture. I love my XS, but that seat just aint right. Maybe its too wide or something but it dosnt feel right to me. And its not all that good looking anyways.

In the book XS Eleven Heaven there is a picture of a chain driven XS11 and it has a similar seat. I recognized the seat from an RD400F cause I had one back then. I have been Trying to find on on ebay but no luck. I haven't tried too hard tho.
            It would look good.

              Hi racr,
never mind the seat's aesthetics, your backside can't see the seat. But if the seat ain't comfortable, that's another matter.
From photos that I've seen, the Standard seat looks to be just as wide as the Special's so I don't see swapping in a Standard seat and rear fairing doing much to change the comfort level, even if you can accept the way it looks rather than just keeping on searching for a Zephyr seat.
OTOH, seats can be re-worked to be narrower &/or differently shaped. Try the search function, look for "seat modification/rebuild/narrowing/lowering etc."

hi there...that is my ride you are talking about...if you dont have any luck in searching for one...i can produce you a fiberglass version...you really need to use a shorter front end to achieve a sportier stance..an R1 or R6 frontend (inverted forks) will be much better..let me know.

                    Paul,
Will the R6/ 1 front end fit up with the stock steering headcomponents (ie, what bearings, etc.)?
Healthy is merely the slowest rate at which you can die

Some people will tell you that slow is good - and it may be, on some days - but I am here to tell you that fast is better. I’ve always believed this, in spite of the trouble it’s caused me. Being shot out of a cannon will always be better than being squeezed out of a tube. Hi racr,
                      Like the good book sez:-
                      "Seek and ye shall find"
"Ask and it shall be given unto you."
It's almost enough to make a believer out of you, eh?

Yea, i'd love some pics. It's an interesting project you made. I'm not sure an R1 or R6 front end will be in the budget, but pm me on what you want for those replica pieces since I already know they look "right". Thanks

although we used a suzuki GSXR front end (no R1/R6 cheap front end here in manila)...we changed the bearings and machined a spacer on top to compensate the longer height of the steering column...with the R1/R6, you might do the same...

if you want me to do your seat as well, we can make you one...although this is measured with the Zephyr tank...anyway, we can still do some changes if you will retain your old tank...my old tank is still lying around the shop though, it can be used as a base....anyway, please send me a picture of your ride just to make sure of what kind of tank you have....send the picture at paulbaut2004@yahoo.com...or just PM the pic to me here.
