  • Handlebar/Riser help

I need help with my handlebars/RISERS. I have an XJ with the crazy independent bars that I have removed and need suggestions as to HOW and with WHAT I can use to mount a newer set of bars.

I am planning on using a 7/8" bar with dimensions:
    Width: 29.2"
    Rise: 5.36"
    Pullback: 3"
    Center: 4.4"

Can anyone direct me on where I can find risers that will work on the bike and still not break the bank?

I have read here that the more forward bars make the bike harder to handle, so im saving my crazy stock "bars" just to be safe.

Hope everyone that is able to ride is out and doing so! For the rest of us that are still working on getting there, good luck!

Not 100% sure, but if you get a upper triple tree from an XS11 Special, 79-81, you should be able to bolt your standard 7/8" bars on an XJ.

          ???

Were you able to do this swap? I would like to know what you came up with. I found a standard triple tree but I would like to make sure it works before I buy it. I would love to know how this turns out for you.

The Standard TT has different geometry due to the Standard's center axle mount type of fork. I'd try to find one from a Special, suited for the leading axle type fork.

              Hey Bakerboy,

Do a search for "handlebar" and "650", and you'll probably find a few threads that had discussed this type of conversion, probably a bit easier than getting and replacing a whole upper TT!?

I'm feeling nice today, here's the thread with pictures and such!!!

                thanks everyone for suggestions!

I haven't bought anything yet (and its good that I didn't if the TTs are different). I guess at this point I am worried more about engine work than the handlebars so they are going to have to wait.

And a BIG thanks to TC for his generosity in posting that thread!
