    carbs off

    Hi,

Ive got the carbs off, and unbenownst to me, they are mixed, the number three is black, the rest are gray and this being a Midnite, PO must have mixed them.

I did have it sitting with the b12 overnight, and it didnt make any difference, in fact, now I am sure that it runs better cold than when it warms up with the choke on. Warm, it will only run with full choke.

I did use a propane torch today to see if loading number two with propane make a difference, and IT DOES. The thing runs reasonably smooth with propane running in carb number two, so there is the answer. I figure that the pilot in number two is messed up.

Hey, why not just convert to propane and have a high pressure vessel sitting between your legs.

Just kidding, it sounds like you have found the issue, as in no fuel to number 2.

        yikes propane betwixt me legs

        Hi,

Yes number two carb is the problem but I figured that . Is it possible for the stray gray carbs to be the older model such that I would need two types of carb kits? Will any model of those bolt together on the hanger?

I don't think they could work as a mixed set, but look at the number of holes in the carb inlet bell, if they are all the same then your good, if the gray carb has one less hole then its the early style.

            Carbs muffup

            Hi,

I seem to have the appropriate carbs, the holes all seem identical and in the same places.
I have attempted to drill out the brass covers over the idle jet, yikes, Ive got one eightth holes in all of them, and the number one and two are fully drilled out . I dont want to go further on this til I hear something back, the two idle jets that are visible, I cant move much with the screwdriver due to damage from the drill hitting them is what I think. The one with the most damage from the drill, moves easiest, I turned it about two more full turns out, and it wont come further nor will it turn back in. The number two is the problem cylinder and that one is the one that will move at all. Help

              Update pilor jets

              Hi,

I am only able to move the number ones and number four pilots with the screw driver, those are both out and fluid goes freely thru all the passages. Number two, now sprays out the air passages in the bell also even though it wont actually unscrew much at all.

Two and three,, I cant move much at all, but Ive poured b 12 into them, filled them up, and the b12 seems to go down at about the same rate as one and four do. Is this sufficient for the pilots or must they all come completely out. Is there some trick to getting those pilots out.

Further, I sprayed aerosol carb cleaner in it, and the air passages in the carb intake bell, only one and four flow thru, also, I checked the three tiny holes near the butterflys and all four carbs squirt at least one of the tiny holes thru.

I assume your talking about the idle mixture screws on the top-engine side of the carbs, these are different then the idle jets, which are inside the float bowl on the bottom of the carbs.

yeah, you need to be very careful not to hit the screw with the drill when removing the caps, It is important to be able to adjust those screws. At this point your best bet is to get some screw extractors and remove and replace the ones that you hit with the drill. you can purchase individual screws from mikesxs or rebuild kits with jets and screws and all from many places.

If you've already got a small hole in the caps that is all you need, now screw a screw into the cap and pull it out with pliers, no need to drill the whole thing out.
