Small setback

Could not get #2 cylinder to fire. I got spark and gas but no compression.
Bummer.
Looks like I'm making another trip inside the engine.
My first compression test I got 175 psi on all the cylinders. now #2 won't even move the needle.

Going to take a few days off and regroup. At least it should all come apart pretty easy.

If it's been sitting a while you may have a sticky valve. Try taking your carbs off, put your hand over the intake and crank the engine. If you feel less pull than the others, it's the intake. If not, then it's the exhaust valve. Then you can either squirt the intake valve or the exhaust valve with some seafoam. If you can get the valve moving better and run it a bit it might clear up nicely.

If either of the valves aren't closing it might be that the clearances/shims aren't right on the money. Lot's of funky math goes in to that "shimmin-ing" procedure and if the mathematically "Correct" shims don't match the "real-world" clearances then it's entirely possible that the shim is not permitting the valve to fully close. (Air molecules are so darned small they can squeak by all but the most perfect sealing surfaces...)

Just something to look at prior to pulling the head off entirely.

(Not saying that pulling the head off to admire your already outstanding work inside the cylinders wouldn't be fun for ya.....)
