Is the XS11 you're selling a standard or a Special?
By all means hang around. This is one of the most friendly buch of bikers I've ever known.
GeezerHi my name is Tony and I'm a bikeoholic.

I have two 1980 specials. I'm selling one and standardizing (or rather bastardizing) the other one. I’m looking for an 11 Standard project bike.

A lot of guys here no longer have XS's, but still come to rallys and stuff........ Someday my XS may go on to make somebody else happy, but I'll stay on........Gary Granger

Keep it keep it keep it keep it keep it
Sorta hard for me to follow that mentallity. If you love 'em why would you get rid of it? It surely wouldn't be for its high resale! I guess everyone is differant. Anyway when I sell mine I'll be gone too. I just don't see any sense in getting rid of something that you had.......... to advise-share with others. Not like I'm keeping track or anything but I hope this don't become a trend. In my trade I run into people all the time who tell me how to do my job that say they "used" to do it. Now I'm sure this will upset someone but I'd rather tell it how I feel than sugarcoat it. Hell who knows maybe one day the "Other Bike" section might have more discussion than the XS-XJ.............LOL ( I could see a guy with a brand-x bike finding this site and getting rid of it and building his very own vintage XS-XJ) Call me narrow minded but it's how I really feel. At least I took the time to explain it!

In my case I have evolved since I bought the XS, 6 or 7 years ago the XS was the absolute ultimate machine in my mind. I was riding a Kawasaki 650CSR at the time. I loved my 80G (and still do) but since then I realized that the XS will not fill every niche in my riding experience. I love the twisty roads and despite a fork brace, progressive spings and Koni shocks, the old girl does not corner as well as my Bandit or my Triumph.
Will I dump her in the ditch, just to get rid of it? NOT A CHANCE!
So anyway........the XS is one of the most versatile bikes ever built, but is it the best bike ever built? Depends on what you want it do. Maybe yes and maybe no.

In my opinion: "must reading for the newcomer-owner" of XS11.
Anybody that can give me some feedback about them and/or this posting, I would like to hear it> email me> Rjohncarlton@wmconnect.com> or post it.

10-4 > on that........; it's definitely on my list of places to "get around" to go to and check out. I bet the owner would have somebody give you a personalized tour of everything, including the service area. Especially "XS11 Heaven".JCarltonRiggs

I've had a few e-mail conversations with Bob Jones... the owner of Merriam Cycle. When I purchased my Maier sport fairing... which came from JC Whipme without instructions... he sent me extremely detailed instruction on how they install the same fairing on their bikes. I sent a request for help to their general business e-mail and Bob responded personally. Trust me.... this man knows his XS Eleven! He even told me he would send me an e-mail when his new book.... "XS Eleven Heaven" was ready to ship. He told me that it contained lots of stuff about the XS Eleven that you could not find anywhere else... plus a bunch of humor. He said he was putting the photos together for the book and preparing for final editing before publishing.1978 XS1100E "Flashback"
