  • A good detergent/cleaner for the gas tank.

I just bought a 79 SX1100SF, my first bike in over 10yrs of not owning or riding a bike.

Upon getting it home I noticed a gas leak. I thought it was the petcock valve and disassembled the tank to remove them. I found that the previous owner had used some sort of caulking to seal the petcock to the tank instead of replacing the o-ring seal. I'm attempting to clean the area around the holes for the petcocks. What is a safe detergent or cleaner to use as it will likely get into the gas tank?

    Thanks, Aric.

Aside from harming your paint, carb cleaner could help quite a bit
