  • Any body interested in a goup buy on valves?

The Brian Crower performance parts company has agreed to make XS11 and XJ11 valves for $15 a pop. Now that's a killer price if you ask me...

I will need a sample of both intake and exhaust valves for both the early and late engines. The XJ takes the same valves as the 80 on XS11 so that's one less we have to work on. So anybody have a few valves to send me? Preferably not bent...

The way I plan this is one of us (me if no one else wants to do it) collects all the orders, buys the valves in bulk then ships them out to the individual buyers. For our Canadian brothers, one of us near the boarder can slip them over the line and post them from Canada. So there will be an initial shipping charge and about another 5 or 6 bucks per order to get them to you...

You've gone above and beyond for the group Tony. Again.

Thanks for the hard work and digging. Seems I remember the stock later model valves being somewhere between 45-55 bucks each.

The hard part was looking through tons of parts books to find that there were many valves for cages that had the right head and stem diameter but were too long. They have to cut the valves shorter and finish them for our engines...

I still need samples... I know I can get one good later model intake from Poprock's spare cylinder head but that leaves me needing 3 unbent valves to collect and I don't want to tear into one of my good spare engines to get them...

I don't have the cash to do so or I wouldn't be posting this... I don't need the valves for my engines (not yet anyway.) I started this as I found that valves for a friend's engine were near unobtanium..

I just went out and looked at the 78 head I have and know for certain at least half of them are bent, but if you don't have any other offers, let me know and I can tear that head down and check on a couple of the others.

Are these valves something someone will be donating, or will they get them back?

I think the CRC site has the later ones still, but the early ones have dried up recently. Maybe everyone chip in a few $? I thought Vesrah made them too.

Yeah, even if someone bought only 10 each, their looking at sitting on $600.

BUT... you would be able to sell the earlier valves to the Yamaha Triples people also since the 750/850 used the same valves. Or did they change theirs after 80 also?

I'm assuming they will come back with the order. After that, they will have the specs saved and it's just a matter of calling and ordering more.

You were the first to offer and if you're still willing to do the work, then yes I'll take them...

LOL.. I meant that if nobody else offers.. let me know.. but like I said, there's a really good possibility that all of mine are bent. I can see that every one of them has a mark where it hit the piston.

It sounds like there bent to me but I guess it wouldn't hurt to check...

My eBay head came in yesterday and from inspection (I haven't pulled the valves yet), all the valves are good. I only need a pair of them for my bike, so if you need some valves for the 78/79 bikes, I could probably part with a pair. That would at least give a little bit back to the group.

I think I have a late model exhaust valve that isn't bent. I think. IIRC all my intakes were bent and I had a couple exhaust that were good.

                            I'll check tonight.

The exhaust ones are where the stuff goes out right?

That would be great. PM me if you end up having a good exhaust valve...

Yep, the exhaust valves are like the sphincter of the engine...
