  • Hiding/Cleaning up wiring....

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has ever gone to the trouble of cleaning up and relocating that mess of wires that normally resides in the headlight bucket. Any ideas or actual pictures of how it was done and where you moved things would be awesome.

The reason I ask is this:
    1. My long term goals is to do a cafe racer\street fighter look with dual small headlights = no bucket for the wires

    2. I'm adding an aftermarket speedo/multi-function gauge and need to re-work the wires anyways.

I just tucked mine behind the fairing. Nobody sees them there anyways.

I'm home on lunch right now, but I have no fairing and an aftermarket headlight. I had to do a lot of clipping and crimping and mine looks fairly decent. I'll take some pics this afternoon and post for you guys.

Thanks, I was beginning to think everyone with aftermarket lights just left that huge wad of wire hanging in the breeze.....

Maybe you could work out a canvas sack of some sort, and just hang it behind the headlight! Might give it a masculine look!

Yeah, I could use two canvas sacks and then a flash light for a head light. That would look real, um, masculine Maybe even attach the sacks to the light somehow....

              hmmmm

seriously though I've considered some sort of leather fork bag but its just not the look I'm going for, if I was doing a bobber I think that would be the easiest solution.

I've not really looked closely at what may or may not be possible but I'm thinking along the lines of:
              1. Moving that whole bundle of wires up under the tank someplace
              2. Making 4 individual runs of wire
One run goes directly to the headlight(s) (3 wires)
One run goes to left controls and left bar end blinker (includes a ground and left blinker wire
One run goes to right controls and right bar end blinker (includes a ground and right blinker wire
One run goes to my aftermarket speedo/tach (has all kinds of cool extras like cylinder temp, oil temp, volt meter etc. as well as all the stock idiot lights and stuff)
              3. Possibly running the control wires inside the bars, however that may not be possible.

ok, so it's not the prettiest wiring job, but if you wanted to it wouldn't be difficult to cut a bigger section out and bring it tighter up against the neck. BTW, here I've already cut a 6-8" section out and spliced everything back up.
