Looks too small for a gps mount, but maybe something electronic he planned to mount there? Too low and not stout enough for a camera.

Seems to be welded to the top of the sterring stem bolt which seems like a bad idea to put something on it that could cause rotational torque like that eye bolt top. (yeah not likely, but me being the worry wart engineer that I am....)

Maybe a place to tie the top/front of a tank bag to secure it?

Looks like an eye bolt that could be used to hoist the front end up off the ground to work on the forks, or even do the 2nd gear fix.

                Eyebolt

Looks to me like the owner may have been building a trailer queen, and that's where he planned on putting the tie-downs. Don't want to scuff any of the finish, y'know...

It is a very pretty bike.

The only reason why I am replying is to say that I feel the price is WAY too high. I don't really know what a rebuild on these engines costs but it can't be anywhere to justify that cost. I am the type of person that likes putting the work into their own bike; I feel it builds a relationship with it. For instance, I have a 2003 Cavelier that was given to me and I hated that car until the engine blew out because of the oil pump and the dummy lights never went lit up. Now since I threw a new engine in it and know everything about how it works I like the car. That is just me though, I like to think I own the machine that I depend on.

So the reason that I think the price is too high is because I find many XS bikes for under $1,000 that could be built up to a better bike for way less than their asking price. It all depends on your personal preference; if you don't like putting the work in then it might be worth it to you.

That in the USA tho.. in Australia everything costs a lot more...

My dad paid $2500 for a XS the other week and has been told that was a great buy, $2000 less than me, but it has scratches, dings and minor dents, the seat is ripped, the fork seals leak, it needs a major tune, new battery, theres some rust on it and the brakes need a overhaul and the rev gauge doesn't work, minor stuff but getting it up to a nice finish will cost almost as much as what I paid.

It's just me i spose, I like to pay that little extra and have something thats already done for me. ...and getting mechanics who will rebuild these engines is becoming difficult.

There's no doubt that the Americans get a great deal on bikes and parts.

Most of the parts I have bought for the XS have been from the USA and they are still much cheaper after shipping than paying a stealership over here.

2nd hand bikes tend to be in relatively good shape because no salt or grit is ever used on our roads, but even a basket case of a bike costs $1500 and anything that is roadworthy would be $2.5-3k.
