Yes, the 650 headlight bucket WILL fit the special. Most "new" round headlights are 7", although some are a smaller 6.5".
You can also buy a "universal" headlight bucket if that's what you need. If it's just the bulb, I'm pretty sure the 650 still fits.

Jrplumber1 has some stuff for sale. There is a headlight bucket/ring/bulb in his mix of parts. I'm not sure if it will fit your bike, but you'll be able to tell by looking at the pictures.

            Hi Ike,
yes, they are the same part, or at least, so similar that I can't tell the difference.
Get a pattern new one from MikesXS or a used genuine one from Andreas.

              Fitting to xs11

I just checked out MikesXS site - wondering how many of these parts fit the XS1100? Wanting to replace my right and left side switches and the pics look the same as my 78 xs1100. Prices are very reasonable. Anyone know how these parts cross-reference?

Those switches are close, and IIRC, all you really might need to do is change the connector on the end of the wires. There are quite a few parts that will interchange, but some "look" right, but are not quite right. The UK site, benefiscal.co.uk, is a great resource for cross-referencing part numbers. They even have pictures to compare a lot of them.

Be aware that if you ever have to communicate with MikesXS staff, they are known to get upset if you tell them you are using the parts for an 1100.

                  Hi Tri,
for sure MikesXS won't tell you. Their site says something like "parts only fit XS650".
I assume their stance is plain CYA in a country where you can sue a coffee shop if you scald yourself by spilling their coffee.
But yes, those switches will work; you may have to modify the wiring. I am not sure if the wiring colours, the plug shape and wiring placement are the same.

Thanks I wasn't sure. I have bought a carb float from mixesxs before and it was no where close to right.

You musta bought the wrong one then. They sell 2 kinds, and they fit the 1100s fine. There are plastic floats for the later models, and metal ones for the earlier models.

My 79 special has the brass ones, and that is odd because I called Mike himself and he said he did not carry the floats for the 1100, but offered to refund my money. He seemed to be a pretty nice guy. I also need to know if the fork ears that hole the headlight are compatible or where I can get a new set. Thanks again in advance!

I meant to say "hold" the headlight not "hole"

Well he is right and wrong. He carries the floats for the BS34 carbs, both the plastic and the brass, but for the 650, which BTW uses the same carbs with different jets and vacuum slide springs. The carbs themselves won't exchange, but all the parts for them do.
