  • virago final drive? any thoughts?

i was thinking about the 750 final drive swap and i was wondering if anyone happens to know the gear ratio on a 1983 Yamaha XV 750 Virago final drive?

i can see be the pictures on flea bay that the shock mount is 3 inches further forward but i'm not sure how critical that is?

i was looking for thoughts, if it's a bad idea to change the angle of the shock
or if the gear ratio is a no good, please let me know.

    Thanks gents!

The obvious....There are ALOT more dimensions to watch than the shock mount. Have you verified if the distance form the swing arm mount to the axle is the same? Is the diameter of the output gears and the number of splines the same on input and output gears?

Changing the shock mounting location would probably require a different length shock to keep the two sides of the swingarm aligned, either that or dorking around with shock settings if that is an option.

As to the ratio, ask the seller to check for you.

Why not just get an XS750 or 850 final drive?

here is what i found so far.

              Virago `84 an up as- 700/750- 49/44 x 19/18 x 32/11 (3.420)
              1000/1100-45/46 x 19/18 x 32/11 (3.003)
TMK the first two ratio's are in the transmission and the 32/11 is for the pumpkin.

for the Yamaha Maxim 700 bike
Final drive Shaft and bevel gears; 19/18 x 32/11, 3.08

i was wondering what the ratio's are on the 650/750's?

and if there were any advantages...
              3.003 to a 3.08 doesn't seem like much.

              is it?
