  • Help engine swap

My 1978 xs11 has a blown motor. I've located a 1982 1100 maxim engine. Does anyone know if these will swap out?

Yes but you will need to install the ignition from the old motor into the new one, or install the ignition module (black box) from the XJ on the bike.

The alternators are different too, but they can be swapped. The engines are basically the same and bolt up identically.

When swapping between an early model XS and an 81 XS the ignition chnaged to incorporate the mechanical advance into the TCI. In 82, they added the vacuum advance into the TCI and added a vacuum "meter" that sends a signal to the TCI.

So if you stick with the timing setup in the XJ, you will need to swap the TCI and the bring over the vac module. Or you can swap out the timing setup from your 78 to the 82 engine, whioch seems much mor elikely and practical unless your buying the entire parts bike.
Life is what happens while your planning everything else!
