  • What to expect of laid down XS used buy

I am going to take a look at this one today. The left side engine cover(tranmission cover) is missing. It had been laid down. How do I tell if something in transmission had been bent/broken? I can think of moving it forward and backward and see if it shifts smoothly...

    Any advice would be appreciated.

Any covers on the outside can be replaced. Not quite sure of what you're saying about the transmission cover... If you meant the shifter cover, not sure how it would get into that since it's recessed in there. If that cover is gone, so is the shifter.

The main thing I'd look for is broken fins or cracks in the case. Anything that bolts on to the motor can be replaced pretty easily.. though they don't need to know that. Play the part with the grimaces and head shaking... lol.

I'd also look at the frame as best I could.. looking at the welds up by the triple tree and make sure things are still lining up right.

Good luck.. and.. your picture didn't post.

I am sorry that the picture didnt load. I guess I will never figure out how. To clarify, I am more concerned about internal damages to shifter/tranmission.

I don't think that sliding on it's side could ever damage the internals. These things were built pretty stout. Even if the internals were damaged somehow... as long as the cases are good, they are easily replaced also.
