  • The Epic continues...Opinions on the oil pump?

As many of you have read, what began as a starter clutch fix has morphed into a complete going-through. I've sorted out the bearing conundrum, thanks for all the input everyone. My rebuild epic continues...and I really don't like the looks of this...

    Opinions?

    hey randy,

bit hard to tell by the pic but if those score marks are deep enough and allow the oil to bypass the pump,
then i think you might need to replace it.

if there not too deep, you might be able to rub it back a bit.

That was my opinion, too, Pete. I COULD reface the cover and the outer rotor, but can't do anything with the inner rotor nor the inner housing. It has similar gouges. The clearance between the inner / outer rotor is OK, though.

it was the score marks on the inner and outer rotor
that would have me worried, i could see where oil could
leak past. being that youve replaced the bearings and all,
i wouldnt take the risk in using it.

how did u go with the bearings,
which ones did u end up using?

i wonder what you picked up to cause that,
did u find anything in the oil?

Any idea what kind of oil pressure you used to have?

              Randy,

Ya know, I've never actually taken one of the oil pumps apart. I could take a look and see if they all have that scoring. If they don't, I could send you one of you need it. I've got one or two.. or ten laying around here.

I have taken lots of those oil pumps apart and have to agree that thing should be scrapped out, looks used up, never seen one worn out like that, Yamaha built a good solid oil pump, it has had it, do not use it, find another one, sorry I do not have any , thanx andreas
