does anyone have a pic of what the rear fender looks like on the XS 1100 Special? I purchased this bike disassembled in a box and I think I was given the fender off another bike

This is a pic of a 79 special fender, 80,81 were different bcause the tail light was mounted to the grab bar rather than the fender itself.

        fender

Thanks Greg. I have located one here in Ontario. The one I have has holes drilled in it that shouldn't be there. It's pretty much scrap

          Hi Greg,
is the tail light bolt pattern the only difference? Could I swap my '80 Special's fender for a fender from a '79 Special?
Maybe I'd like to move my rear light away from the grabrail so I could more easily fit a luggage rack if it was a simple swap job.

            Hey Fred,

I'll let you know for sure when I actually get it done. As you know the 80 special has 2 bolt holes and a wiring hole for the licence plate mount/light. On the older models the licence plate mount/light and taillight are all one unit and has 4 bolt holes and a wiring hole in the fender to accomodate.

As far as I can see that is the only difference but specials are different from standards.

You'll just have to build some wiring from the tailight plug under the seat down to where the older taillight mounts.

I need to move mine because I'm gonna put a highback seat/w sissy bar on mine and the grab bar has to go.

Here is a pic of the fenders for an 81, same as the 80.

Only thing different is the holes for the tail light versus lisence plate light
