  • I hope this is not a bad sign

I started to pull my cam cover off tonight. No problem until i got to the front center bolt. There is no way to get this puppy out. It is hitting the cross support just above it. The bike was in a wreck, and had to have new forks, and handlebars before i got it. Is it possible that this bar was pushed back a ways? Is this normal for this bolt? Maybe there is a shorter bolt supposed to be in that spot. Trying hard not to think that the front frame is bent. Looks like i will have to cut it with my dremel tool to get it out, and replace with a little shorter bolt, but that still won't solve the bent frame if it is.

You should be able to get to the bolt .I have taken mine off many times and although it is a bit tight I was always able to take all the bolts might be . A picture will help to see if something is bent .

that bolt is a very tight fit. Typically the wrench will not fit in it when it is almost out. But it should be removable.

No problem getting the wrench in. I can unscrew it most all the way, then it hits the cross bar. Might have to do like you suggest, and take the mounts loose.

And the manual says there is an exact torque for it on reinstallation! Yeah right, try and get a torque wrench on it! OK, maybe it is doable if you drop the engine down a bit.

There's an exact torque for every bolt on the thing. All the bolts for the engine covers and the oil pan are supposed to be 7.5 ft/lbs, but I doubt most people use a torque wrench on any of those.

Dropping the engine down did absolutely no good. I ended up cutting the bolt. I will replace it with a shorter one. You could not get a torque wrench on this one unless the engine was out.
