  • Ive searched on Petcocks, no help Can I convert from 2 Vaccum to 1 Manual?

Hey guys, Ive read up on delelting the octy, soldering the ports on the petcocks etc, Im currently planning on runing a '63 K Model Sportster tank on my bike with 2 Manual 1/4" petcocks... BUT, if I can run just one 1/4 petcock to all four carbs without fuel starvation, I will do it. Any input would be great, thanks

I beleive others have run off of just one petcock successfully.

      Hi '79,
notwithstanding the aesthetic (and some would say, morality) problems of running a Harley tank on an XS11,
      of course you can.
Gas will flow through one 1/4" diameter petcock a lot quicker than it will flow through four XS11 carburettors.

Not sure how the Sportster tank is shaped, but the reason we have 2 petcocks is not for fuel starvation, but because fuel sits on both sides of the tunnel (tank hangs over the frame, causing pockets on each side). If you only have one petcock, you end up loosing the fuel in the non-petcocked side.

I run one petcock on my Standard. Fuel line from petcock to an inline filter, then to a "T", then lines down to carbs 1+2 and 3+4. This setup carries plenty of fuel down to the carbs.

heres a picture of the tank. It is flat bottom so the fuel wont need a cross over, I was just making sure that the reason the stock has 2 petcock was not to even out the fuel flow. Thanks guys.

I removed the Octy on my MNS. I can use either or both petcocks and the bike runs fine. 1200 big-bore kit at wide open throttle, no starvation on one petcock.
