  • signal light problem

Hey all. I have a problem with my signal lights. When I turn the key on my right light starts flashing. When I try using the signals, they do not work. Any ideas?

Does the right continue to flash when you try the signals or does it shut off?

More than likely you will have to take the switch housing apart and clean all the "green " corrosion from the contacts. As far as the right side flashing only check the left for power . The hazard switch might be on check that and try the signals again . Either way you may have a short or to much corrosion on the contacts in your switch housing.

Is it flashing light it normally would when in use (Slow, like a regular turn signal), or does it flash super fast, like it's had too much coffee? If it is normal, I agree with Tinman. The contacts in the left controls get all messy over time, and need to be cleaned out. They often need a little soldering too, as the solder joints start to let go. Take it apart slowly, and really pay attention to where things go in there. It's a really interesting switch (especially the ones with the emergency flasher in there too).

If it's flashing faster than normal, it may be a crossed wire in the circuit, or something not grounded properly.

          Hi Jamie,
a quick check, lift the seat & tank and pull the 4-way flasher unit that lives under there.
No more Mr Flashy and it's something to do with the 4-ways.

You don't have to lift the tank to get to that. It's immediately behind the tank, just inboard of the left frame tube under the seat. At least that's where it is on mine.

                Hi 'Bug,
OK, just lift the seat. I wasn't sure and wasn't about to go into the cold garage, take the seat off and look.
But NOT the other flasher that lives under the right-hand side panel with the rest of the electrical stuff.
But hey! Looks like he fixed it anyway.
