anyone ever swap out a 650 or 750 top fork clamp? i'd like to add some handlebar risers, but my xs11 only has built-in handlebar clamps. I'm not sure if the forks swap out evenly... if anyone has any input, it'd be much appreciated...

Plenty of folks have added risers to the stock 'tree. No need to swap out the 'tree if that's your only reason.

Ah, you 'special' guys got it easy....

But if you have a 'standard', the bar clamps are a cast-in part of the tree. I'm not aware of any top tree that will interchange. You can swap to the Special front end, but you have to swap everything but the wheel/rotors. But there have been several posts not too long ago on 'riser extensions' for the standard tree, so try a forum search.

It would help if you noted which year/model XS you have, as there are considerable differences on some things.

know of any swap that gives a little more rake to the forks? whether it be a special, 650 or 750?

The only swap I've heard of that changes the rake is switching from a Special TO a Standard front end. And that change is only a very small one. Maybe Fred will know more about this one...

Depending on how high you want to go??, these are an option for standards.

The only ways to get more rake on a XS would be a set of custom raked trees (very dangerous if you put in enough rake to see) or actually rake the neck on the frame....

Mixing parts back-and-forth between the special and the standard won't change the rake, but will change the trail.

Good choices walker5, but he has a Standard. Will work if you don't mind losing the coverage of ign. assembly etc. Standards have the one-piece casting that clamps bars down. Not like Specials with the individual hold downs. I went with the Heli-Bars like on my 92 Honda ST 1100. They are FULLY adjustable, vertical, horizontal, and bar-end angles. With open-end grips, can even screw in the Honda bar end weights if you like. Would have to watch for used ones as Heli quit production of these last summer for the ST1100 untill furher notice. Even used they are pricey. New they were $300, but well worth it for long hauls. Used older Wing bars has been a popular choice as they set a bit higher and back more than the XS stock bars that came on the Standards. Hope that helps some with your options.

Here is what I used for risers and my review:
                  http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22973

I found this was one of the cheaper options to get my handlebars exactly how I wanted them. The risers with the grip puppies made an amazing change to my bike. I don't have the wrist and back pains on my 500 mile days like I used to have. The ignition switch doesn't look bad with the risers, it's just the risers that look a little odd but with my fairing it's not such a big deal. Even if I didn't have a fairing, I would still use the risers as the benefits (comfort) out weigh the negatives (looks).

Another option that I found is common here is to use older Honda goldwing bars, but I can't comment on that since I went with the risers.

                    Hi FLryder,
                    these will work:-
                    http://www.zianet.com/GenMar/
Gen-Mar also make them with a 1" lift & no setback.
You will have to lose the Standard's fancy loop-around-the-iggy-switch top casting though.

if you want to get really technical, take the upper tree off and grind the lower bar mount so that the arear between the forks is flat, you may need to fill the bottom with some Aluminum tig rod to make it stronger, then you can drill 2 holes in the no flat upper tree and mount whatever bars or risers you want. Its a bit of work, but you can also run 1" bars that way. Ive been doing it along with my dad whose done it for 30 years never had a problem.

Wonder how hard it would be to get them to make one for the XS11 standard similar to this:
