  • XS1100 used parts source

Hi, mmarquis here, i went to Bob's motorcycle parts boneyard in Phoenix, i found a complete airbox for my 80 special there; he wants 40 bucks for it ,is that a good price? Also he seems to have somewhere near 40 or so xs1100s there, some mostly there ,some just a frame with wheels, a fair number of complete engines there. Looking at the gas tanks it might be more standards than specials. A fair number of complete carb sets. I,m unaware if any body on the xs1100 site shops there and if so is Bobs a good place to go? He didn't seem to have many side covers there i,m looking for the left side of the 80 special i have .

    Think Global/Buy Local

Myself? I wouldn't object to that price for a usable airbox. I purchased the lower portion of an airbox from member Andreas Weiss for much less.

Some members can't find a usable airbox so they opt for removing the airbox entirely and then installing individual pod filters. There's a running debate on the pro's and con's of that mod with folks on both sides of the issue.

I'd be Xstatic to find a salvage yard with that many XSes. Especially in the desert where rust is minimal.

        The website for bobs is.....

bobsusedmotorcycleparts.com when you go there it will say it's under construction. Google the adress for bobs' and when the map comes up zoom in and go to aerial version and see how large the yard is.

It's kinda funny to see the comparison with the auto yard next door. His yard looks like it's full of tiny ants next to the cars in the other lot.

I was on holiday in Arizona in 2002 and found myself in Bobs yard - had a very happy few hours baking in the sun & wrenching parts off XS11's but then I had a HUGE excess baggage bill at the airport check-in on the way home.

            Still worth it though
