Yeah the only things ive found to have all the sensory inputs equivalent to the factory setups are long rectangular fully digital guys with wheel sensors and magnets for the speedo. Seem to be a viable option but not quite the look that suits these. that link i posted was from doing a gooogle search on that name. couldnt find any real info on the product or a spot to place an order, bad web design haha.
I can't recommend the Acwell speedo linked as I went through 4 of them before the distributer admitted they were having trouble with them. This is the one with the needle tacho and digital speedo.
I am considering going back to a cable driven speedo as I haven't found anything else I like that suits my budget. The acwell one stretched the budget at $360
While looking into this I notice the xs650 speedo drive and others as well look the same as the xs1100 speedo drives, are they interchangeable and would that solve the different ratio problem. That is if there is any as some are saying there is no problem????

I will add that the lower cc bikes like the 400's speedos will work too.
It just that their diameter is a little smaller than the 1100's. (I've got a xs400 120mph speedo on my SG and you can see that it's just about 1/2" smaller, but bolted and plugged right up!)
If you get one that's for a 77-82 then it'll have the reed switch for the turn signal auto cancel too. You may have to modify the plug, but at least all the wires will be there that you need.

That's great info thanks, I have no idea how the tacho on the xs1100 works, The smaller xs400 tacho would be a treat but is that an option?

the XS11 tach works by counting the pulses of one of the white wires that bring AC from the alternator.
It also acts as a de-facto charging indicator, if the tach quits most likely the alternator has quit too.
I don't know of any other bike with a tach that works like it.
The XS400/650/750/850 tachs are all mechanical.
You can certainly fit an aftermarket tach that feeds off the ignition system.

This has the ratio of 2240RPM @ 60mph (converted from the listings, 1400RPM @ 60KMPH)
I am still a little confused but it seems the xs1100 and the xs650 will have this same speedo drive gear ratio to suit, as long as the wheel is the 19"
So I should be able to stay with a xs1100 speedo drive and speedo cable with this new speedo?

I also checked out that site, they look like they only want to provide the major electrics for vehicles...ie. stators, starters, reg/rects. They apparently have dropped the gauge line. A quick search for the Acewell Electronic speedometers revealed their home site:

It is fantastic when working, but first one was an outright dud that had obvious manufacture flaws and never worked. Second one played up after about 800km and the needle was scraping the face plate. 3rd one let the condensation in and the indicator light failed not long after I got it. 4th one played up after about 500km one day the tacho needle while cruising at about 4000 revs started to creep up hitting the full 12000 revs and never come down again.
This is the one they are having trouble with and I went through 4 before they admitted that.

most likely it was death by vibration for the two that actually worked and mounting those units in a foam cup would have let them live a lot longer.
But after paying AUS$359 for it one shouldn't have to f**k around like that, eh?
