comparison of xs 11 and fj 11

    comparison of xs 11 and fj 11

    Hi,

    I can see that externally, there are some differences and some similarities between the xs11 and the fj11 engines. Are they based on the same block, bore and stroke , cyl heads.? If anyone knows more, lemme know.

    Totally different animal. FJ11 bore + stroke is 74 X 63.8 , the XS11 bore + stroke is 71.5 X 68.6 . The cyl. heads are totally different. I have FJ forks on my XS though.

      Didn't the FJ have four valves per cylinder as well?

      They moved the alternator to behind the cylinder head as well for cornering clearance, IIRC it was the first to do so.

        Yep, 4 vpc, also has a starter chain. They were upped to 1200cc in '87. You can still buy exhausts for them too.

          OK, we all know what the inside of an XS motor looks like, right? Yes we do. FJ motor stripped down in this thread, picture intensive...

            Not within a Bull's roar

            FJ had more torque than XS ever dreamt about and in comparision to sloppy front end of XS felt like it was on rails

              The engine turns the other direction as well and is a little higher revving. The FJ makes alot more torque and horsepower as well. I think the 1100 put out around 125 hp stock.

                  It reminds me of the time when I was a little boy, and Dad bought me a Shetland pony for my birthday. It was a very gentle horse... until... I made the mistake of allowing my uncle to ride it once... made the horse so mean & wild I never got to ride it again...

                  Sounds like this time though... Harry was the wiser one in the scenario... Hehe

                    I have both in the stable...
                    Totally different rides... carbs are similar and it uses the same main bearings (IIRC)


                    Gosh Tod... I didn't have any problems with Harry's FJ leaking gas on me when I rode it...

                            main bearing the same

                            Thats curious about the main bearings being the same, I wonder if the bore centers are the same. Since the xs pipes are so problematic to get it makes me wonder if anyone has ever tried putting the header pipes on the fj on the xs to see if the header pipe centers are the same.

                            Even if they were, I suppose the fj would have bigger diameter pipes since it has so much more power to begin with.
