Well sometimes we luck out on these old bikes. I have been running Champion plugs in my stuff off and on for years and have really never had any complaints. Even sold them growing up pumping gas for my dad back in the olden days. Well anyway I was pokin' around the books at our parts store the other day and realized that RN9-YC has a stock # 415 and if you place a 3 in front of that is stock# 3415 which is a platnium replacement for a mercedes! Still the same plug dimensionally and the same heat range, just better design!!! Now the best part....... it sells for under $2.00!!!!!!!! Check it out. Now I know some guys love their NGK's and others love Bosch and even some go on about Splitfires. I even got on this kick for AC Rapidfires in all my cars and trucks but these Champions have an electrode design just about the same and the ground strap is narrowed down real nice too, and did I mention under 2 bucks?!!! Some people might think getting all excited about a spark plug is a little strange But my old 340 mopar stuff takes the same plug as the XS, how conveniant. I'd say if you indexed 'em you might even notice a 'lil diff'.

HI I actually worked at Honeywell in the spark plug plant that makes Splitfires and AC's doing the robots for a while. According to the engineers at the plant the Splitfires are nothing more than a gimmick and the best plugs are the AC double platinums but only because they last the longest. I personally have noticed the the equipment they use to build the plugs has to run too hot to compress the platinum plug casings which causes a bit of warping of the casing which in turn will allow compressed air/fuel from the engine to escape the casing and run up the insulator especially if they are missing a gasket which they are prone to do. They are excellent plugs but they also tend to have a higher percentage of being bad. If you look at your plugs and see a black streak on the white insulator then your plug is bad and costing you engine compression.
Wow. thats a lot of typing..... wonder if anyone will read it?79 XS1100F "JINGUS"

Hey there Fusionking,
Thanks, but I've been running N9YC's for years on my machine, had 11Yc's before the rebuild, went to the cooler ones to prevent possible hole in piston syndrome!! Will have to check out that 3415 though!!
