Yup.. I'm with Ivan on this one with the sealant/versus gaskets. I think the only gaskets I have on the bike are the base gasket, of course the head gasket, and I use one on the oil pan.

I don't use regular RTV, I use the stuff designed that you put the engine case halves back together with, but have never had a problem with it being on the oil screen or anywhere else. I gues that if you're the type of person that thinks, "If a little is good, then a LOT must be better!" then maybe you should just stick with gaskets.

Also, I've heard many people say to put oil on the gaskets first like Pam cooking spray or the lithium grease, and I've always ended up with a cooked/baked, stuck on worse mess than if I hadn't used any. This is mostly on the valve cover gasket though. YMMV, but it didn't work worth a chit for me.

parts are here and some progress has been made. Front end has been re-assembled, and i got the new head on. Thats it for today (damn dinner plans) so all i have left to do is put the cams in, double check to make sure I'm not off on the cam timing again. If i toast another head and my wife will be sure you see the rest of the bike in the for sale section. Put the cover on, oil pipe back on, hook the wires back up, bolt the drive shaft, carbs back on, say many prayers, oil gas and press the starter button.
