    guessing this is in a post somewhere but if someone knows off the top of their head...where is the serial number on the frame? i looked everywhere obvious (i think, i have done way dumber stuff than missing a number so i wouldn't put it past me) and i didn't see a number.

      On the down tube that holds the triple clamp, on the right side, stamped in the metal. On the opposite side is the manufacturers sticker.

        Hi 1st,
        it means the engine came out of a 1980 Special.
        NOW CHECK THE FRAME NUMBER!
        If the white sticker on the steering head has been painted over or is illegible, the number is also stamped into the frame in that general area.
        Then post a photo. As has been posted, anything is possible.
