  • fitment question

Will a Special tank fit on a Standard frame? If so what is a good, clean (inside and out) tank worth? Thanks

Yes it will, the seat will require some modification in the front for it to fit up against the tank correctly. Also the fuel sending units are different too. The frames are the same up in the tank area. Good tank with nice paint worth about $200 IMHO.

Thanks bikerphil, I checked your rides out, very nice, I really like the tree of shame, gota start one of them in PA.

would a special seat help the fitment of the tank?

Thanks man. Yes, if you use a special seat, they should both fit. There might be an issue with the side covers, maybe. Someone who knows more hopefully will chime in.

          Hi Gonzo,
the tank will drop right on.
Note that the Special tank is a little more than a US gallon SMALLER than the Standard tank.
The Special's thermistor fuel level sender is NOT compatible with the Standard's fuel gauge nor do the gas taps interchange.
I got a sound Special gas tank for (I think) $50 + shipping from Andreas but it did need a paint job.

I put a special tank and 79 special gauges on my 78 standard, It was some work but everything works, even the low fuel light.
