    A friend told me a long time ago that a vehicle is worth what you can get for it. If it's complete, all original, and in excellent condition, he'll probably get what he's asking - maybe not on Craigslist though. I paid $650 for mine, and promptly dumped another couple thousand in parts, not to mention hours and hours of work. Probably could have done it for less but I used mostly new replacement parts, so it could probably be done cheaper. The question is do you have the skills to put a neglected XS back into action, or would it be better to get one that's already road worthy - and do you like wrenching on them.
    I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

      Welcome to the forum!

      That's definitley a nice bike, assuming it runs well. IMHO, the seller will be lucky to get $1500 out of it, but from the right buyer, he might get his asking price. Maybe he's just one of those, "Glass half full" kind of people!

      I wouldn't spend that much for it, but someone else might.

        IMHO, the seller will be lucky to get $1500
        There was a similar machine up on e-bay last spring/summer that went for over 3k, but then again that was at the beginning of the season when sales are brisker. I also know a guy locally who got a mint condition MNS and a parts bike that was in running condition - $1000 for the pair. But he knew the guy who was selling them, and they were never advertised. Just depends on whether or not you're in the right place at the right time. From a buyer's perspective, patience is generally rewarded. Course that tends to work for sellers too.

          Welcome to the forum.

          No mirrors and rusty headers? What else might be going on? I gotta go with CatatonicBug. A fellow in Lodi a few years back had a "68 Ford Pu, needs work, $28,000. Will dicker".

            It certainly looks clean, but the devil will be in the details.

            If it is as good mechanically as it looks, he may not be too far off on the price. Check out the exhaust system...replacement options are VERY limited for the XS1100 right now.

            If you really want an old school muscle bike and this one is sound...I would say $2,500. If only OK condition...maybe $1,000.

            But remember, if it needs any work, those parts add up real fast and hard to come by If you have to hire someone to do the work...pass on it

              Hi Jim and welcome,
              more important than the original ante is how much you have to keep paying to stay in the game.
              is it worth $3,200? If it's runs well, everything works, it's really as nice as it looks AND has new tires and a new battery; just maybe.

                Depends

                I suppose it depends on how original is is. My 79 had 2300 miles on it when I bought it last year and I paid no where near the price they are asking. If it is not a one owner, you never know the degree of originality.

                  If you can ride it, it shifts through ALL gears with NO problem, and it is ALL ORIGINAL, then about $2,000 is a correct price. Other than that, the guy is trying to get a LOT more money out of the bike than what it's worth, IMHO.

                    An all-original '78E went for over $4K on Ebay not very long ago....

                    While it's tough to tell from the one pic, if it's all there, everything works right, and it's cosmetically cherry it might be a good investment. Now you're talking only minor parts if any.

                    Nice (not even perfect) OEM exhaust systems are bringing pretty big bucks just by themselves. But I'll admit, that at this price I'd go over the bike with a fine-tooth comb.

                        I sold a79 standard in excellant condition a couple of years ago for 1300.00..There is a limited market for these bikes .It took me over a month to sell and i had started at 1900,which had no takers .I kept inching down until phone started ringing .IMO it's worth whatever you think it's worth to you.Looks nice ,but i bet it goes for about half of asking price.
