  • 2 questions....both could be bad, but one is okay i think

    so question 1....

i took off my pipes last night. 6 of the allen wrench nuts came off no problem. 2 of the bolts came out of the block. it doesn't look like i broke them off, it just looks like the nuts were rusted on so badly that that was the part that was willing to turn. is this a bad thing?

    2. i am guessing i know the answer to this, but i have apparently a small fuel leak coming either out of the petcock or the tank. this is probably something that should concern me, right? pretty good chance of a fire there? if it is the tank and a small leak, i have already found the fix on here....if it is the petcock, are they cheap?

    thanks!

They have rebuild kits for the petcocks and the studs coming out instead of the nuts off is no big deal. You can Loc-Tite the threads when you re-install if you are concerned about it for some reason, but it won't hurt a thing to leave it like it is.

First order of business is to track down the fuel leak.

While your right, it's not "correct".
I've had mechanics who worked for me that I caught doing such things, they either changed there ways or changed employers.

I'd squirt em with some wizard oil, double nut and remove the offending nuts.
Clean all threads and reinstall with a torque wrench back to spec's.

That being said, I'd just reinstall as is if I were tool challenged until I could do it properly. Stuff like that can come back to haunt you later.

I've got nothing but bolts on mine - no studs. Course I had to permacoil every one of the holes too. The old aluminum didn't seem to like having steel bolts repeatedly torqued and untorqued. My $.02
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.
