Can someone tell me whether the black on the Midnight engine is semi gloss, or matte black? Semi gloss engine enamel is close i think.

All the ones I've seen are old(hard to tell). I use POR-15 gloss black... mostly cuz it comes with a kit for degrease and etch so the paint sticks better. Works good.Last edited by dragxs11; 01-19-2010, 05:13 AM.1980sg-Stocker-- Sold

I went with Hi-temp matt. The original appears to be semi gloss.'81 1100 MNS - "Midnight XSpress"
Original except:
120 mains outer cylinders - 125 mains inner cylinders - Ceramic headers - Powder coated pipes, covers calipers, and MC's
4 pods - Air box gutted--E3 Plugs - High Back seat - Grooved out swing arm - SS brake lines
Fork brace - 160 speedo - Auto CCT
All gold paint and chrome replaced with GOLD plate

On mine, the fins are matte, but the engine side covers are high gloss, just like the tank. I know that if I get it wet, the engine below the fins shines up pretty good, so that area might actually be a semi-gloss.1980 XS850SG - Sold
