    Good eye, Fred

Yep, that was a comstar on there. I have since switched to a stock XS11 wheel for the hack. Both shocks are mounted inboard of the wheel. The XS11 axle is stout enough to only need support on the one side. the swingarm is a "H" beam design so the axle has 4 inches of support before the dangling begins. Sidecar fender formed on the English wheel. The forkbrace on the front end needs to be upgraded though. And I swapped the standard trees onto it with the special forks to reduce trail. Tempting to make my own trees to reduce trail even more though.
Etiehr that or make a leading link front end for it that uses a XS11 rear wheel so that it has the same rim on all three corners.

I guess it might look like a personal attack in print, but I ment it in the nicest way possible.

Why....Joe.....your making me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

I know you didn't mean that in a negative way but 81xsproject is right, heh heh he's always right he's a moderator, even though you didn't mean it the way it sounds in type you can't talk that way here.

People have been banned from forums for less.

I want to keep you around so I have someone I can argue with...and win.

Well there's two things I'm good at.

Starting **** and making folks feel warm and fuzzy.

Don't sweat the razzing, it's tradition. Go around on the forums and look at some of the custom bikes. For all the hazing, they get some of the best kudo's when the job's done.

There used to be a how-to online for hard-tailing Jap bikes. I looked for it though and it's been pulled.

As has been suggested, I'd toss hard-struts on there first to make sure you're okay with the ride. Kinda hard to go back once it's done. If you do it, make sure you use beefy pipe and plugs, and really do a good job on the welding. Don't want to read about it giving out and your experience Fintstone-stopping with your keister.

Whichever you decide to do, good luck!

              its not THAT bad

As probably the newest rider responding to this forum, i got my first bike 2 years ago, and it was a strutted GS 650, first thing i did was put springs on it. Two months later I chopped half the frame off and ran straight down tubes from the engine cradle back to the stock shock mounts on the swingarm, complete with rubber bushings! Looked great with the drop seat, but sucked to ride. My daily driver now is a 79 XS with a 14" over girder, solid struts, and unsprung seat, but it rides like a dream. The key is starting with the right size bike. My axle to axle length is now 6'2". Funny, thats just how tall I am....
